It is low self-esteem. They just hide it behind the pretty. If an attractive person is confident, they're not gonna say things like "I look so ugly/horrible/bad/etc in this pic." Unless they're wearing monster make-up. The type of gals you mention can only see their flaws and need the constant pats on the back. So laugh at them because it's only gonna get worse when they're 50 and most of them is plastic or stitched while you're laughing at your umpteenth art exhibit.

It's very hard and at times, it gets harder. But that's not the point of life, is it? I think we all know that the world isn't a utopia. It's a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to the ground and keep you there forever if you let it. Life will keep hitting you, and everyone, and sometimes you'll hit back. But it's not how hard you hit: it's about how hard you can get hit, how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Not a lot of people can take the punches... fewer than you think. Everyone wants to accomplish their dreams, but you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you're not where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and they're not the ones who make it.
One of the absolute worst things in life to live with is regret. Most people out there have trunks of it. Let's fast-forward ten years. If you stick with being an artist, you'll look back at your earlier works and think "Ew. What was I on? I fucked-up that corner of her eye so bad." If you don't stick with being an artist, you'll look back at your earlier works and think "I was so good, why did I quit? I should've stuck with it." And it'll torment you forever. That's what happens when you can't take life and carry around your trunk of regret.
The big sword hanging over every creative person's head, me included, is the fact that there's someone better than you. There'll always be someone better than you and once you accept that, you'll be able to take that sword and use it. Then no one can stop you. At the same time, don't let it go to your head. Be proud, not arrogant. No one likes a snob and you plus your fans will feel better about yourself and your work.
you're so right : ) i think it's getting harder and harder as years pass by to do anything creative. Everything is already invented so all you can do re- invent, i believe. Even if I'm always complaining about, and I'm always having those damn artblocks, I'll never quit drawing because it is my life, and once I quit drawing, I quit living and all my life propose is totally deleted. My life goal is become a pro, so I don't plan to quit anything so soon. Of corse I'll have obstacles, and some of them I'm not even aware of, but I'll have to face them one day. I just need to be ready : )
